President Obama Press Conference – March 24
Last night President Barack Obama stood before the nation on a televised news conference on March 24 to defend his ambitious ageda for stimulating the economy and getting the country through this financial crisis.
“We never expected when we printed out our budget that they would simply Xerox it and vote on it,” the President said. He indicated that he was willing to compromise on some issues that Congress is balking at, like a tax cut for the middle class and environmental programs. He did insist that he would still stand firm on his top four priorities in health care, energy, education and deficit reduction.
Obama criticized Republicans who continue to assault his budget and the large deficit that it proposes on taking on, recalling that the budget deficit grew greatly under the Republican President George W. Bush.
He also tried to appease further the anger felt over the $165 million in bonuses that the American International Group paid out to their Financial Services devision which was the group that almost single handedly brought down the company.
